Open Enrollment, Health Insurance Information

Open Enrollment for the Affordable Care Act and the Student Health Insurance Program has already begun. This is your opportunity to buy Health Insurance. This opportunity does not exist all year long but only in short, defined enrollment periods.

Shannon Health COVID-19 Information:

Flu season alert!

Thursday, November 5th, Shannon Health will provide FREE FLU Shots to ASU students that have paid the Medical Services Fee in the CJ Davidson Conference Center at the UC, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please take advantage of this great Health Service and bring your ASU ID, State ID and your CID with you. Being protected for the FLU is more important than ever before.

It's flu season If you think that you are running a fever, please stop by your Residence Hall desk or the UC Information Desk to get a Tempadot (a disposable thermometer) and check yourself for a fever.

If you have body aches, sore throat and a fever, stop by the Clinic immediately so that you can be treated.

ASU students can get a free flu shot at the Health Clinic with photo ID. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are always welcomed.

Healthy Habits to Help Prevent Flu

Campus Clinic hours are Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The University Health Clinic is based in the University Sports Medicine Clinic, Shannon Clinic - Jackson. The Health Clinic provides confidential services to ASU students who have paid the current Medical Services Fee.

Angelo State University and Shannon Clinic have become partners to serve ASU Student Health. Students who are registered, attending classes, and have paid the medical services fee have access to unlimited visits to all Shannon Urgent Care locations for Basic, Medical Care by board certified healthcare providers at no additional cost. Summer term students and distance and online learners can access clinic services by paying the fee for the semester they desire clinic services.

The primary campus location is 2237 S. Jackson Street Urgent Care.

The contract between ASU and Shannon provides ASU students with:

  • Basic medical care that can be given within the confines of an exam room (i.e., diagnostics, needed prescriptions written, some treatments);
  • Some basic laboratory services and
  • Basic X-Ray services at their Urgent Care South and West clinic locations.

The following medical services are NOT included and are the responsibility of the ASU student/patient:

  • Medical care delivered at Emergency Rooms
  • Shannon Medical Center (the main hospital)
  • Referred medical specialists
  • Prescription drugs.

Insurance will be filed (no co-pays or deductibles are collected for regular clinic appointments when insurance is filed). Insurance is not required for an ASU student (who has paid the medical services fee) to receive medical care at the available Shannon Clinic Urgent Care locations.

    You can still get 2020 health insurance these ways:

    The payment of the compulsory Medical Services Fee at ASU and the use of the University Clinic does not satisfy the requirements of the ACA.

  • RAMTram: Transportation on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays

    Angelo State University now offers free healthcare transportation on Saturdays.

    Now you have a free ride should a medical issue arise on Saturday. Make sure you obtain a Clinic Authorization Form from the Campus Police Station by showing them your student ID card. Then take your ID, authorization form, and insurance (if applicable) to Shannon Urgent Care West.

  • Medical Services Fee

    The Flu Vaccine is available at the clinic and it is free to ASU students that have paid the Medical Services Fee. Shannon Clinic is providing the four strain vaccine.

    Paying the Medical Services Fee grants ASU students access to all services offered through the Campus Clinic. All students attending ASU full time will pay the Medical Services Fee and will have access to all Clinic Services as described within this website.

    Distance Learning Students are still able to pay the Medical Services Fee at the Student Accounts/Bursar’s Office and be granted full access to the services of the Clinic. Please do not go to the clinic to pay the Medical Services Fee, this is done at the Student Accounts/Bursar’s Office. When going to the Clinic, please have your receipt generated for paying the Medical Services Fee available (this will insure immediate service access).

    The Student Accounts/Bursar’s Office is located in the Mayer Administration Building. Phone number is 325-942-2008. 

    Payment Information

    Your ASU OneCard is required to access all services. ASU Students who have paid their Medical Services Fee must present their ASU OneCard at the Campus Clinic at the time of check-in.

    For the Urgent Care locations off-campus, Students must present their ASU OneCard, their Insurance card (if they have insurance, ASU will pay their Co-Pay and the student will not be charged for the basic visit) and a state or federal photo ID. Clinic services include diagnostic services and treatments appropriate on an episodic, outpatient basis. Counseling, examination, diagnosis and consultation services are available at no additional charge. However, some fees do apply for injections or other medications.

    Students are responsible for the costs of lab work, X-rays, prescription drugs and referrals. Emergency Room services are not included and all services beyond routine treatment currently given at the campus location are not covered by the Medical Services Fee and will be charged to the student at the time of service.

  • Using TRICARE Insurance for Military ID Card Holders

    The University Clinic accommodates students with Military ID Cards using TRICARE. The 17th Medical Group provides medical care through clinics operated on Goodfellow Air Force Base. The 17th Medical Group is open M-F, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (closed on weekends, federal holidays and every third Thursday of each month for training). Counseling Services

Bring Your ASU OneCard

Students must present their valid ASU OneCard to access university health services. Distance Learners who would like to have access to campus health services can opt in by paying the Medical Services Fee to the Student Accounts Office. For more information, please call us at 325-942-2171.

Have you received your HPV vaccine?

Students need 3 doses of the HPV vaccine for it to be effective.

    If you have used the contracted Health Services at the ASU Campus Clinic or at one of the Shannon Clinic Urgent Care locations and need to express concerns about the way you were treated, quality of care, or any concerns in general, please do the following:

    1. Go to the Shannon Medical Center Form
    2. Fill out the page completely and make sure that under the Comment section that you clearly state that you are an ASU student and note when you used the service.
    3. Submit the form
