ASU Brass, Percussion Ensembles Set Concert for Nov. 8

The Angelo State University Brass Ensemble and Concert Percussion Ensemble will perform a variety of traditional and avant-garde music during a fall concert Thursday, Nov. 8, at First Presbyterian Church in downtown San Angelo.

The 8 p.m. Thursday performance will feature the Concert Percussion Ensemble with a traditional and avant-garde repertoire spanning two centuries. The Brass Quintet will also entertain with a variety of selections from Renaissance, Baroque and modern composers. The performance is open free to the public.

ASU's Concert Percussion Ensemble will perform a diverse selection of music. Featured composers for this concert will include Roldan, Gauger and Glassock. In keeping with their unique programming tradition, the Concert Percussion Ensemble will feature two large production pieces, Portico and Layers.

Highlighting their portion of the concert will be a performance celebrating the 35th anniversary of "MacArthur Park," the first work written for jazz percussion. Also to be performed will be the comedy work "Bulbous Bouffant."

The ASU Brass Quintet will perform an exciting mix of literature for brass. The group's repertoire ranges from the massive sonorities of the Venetian school of Gabrieli and his contemporaries to the exciting modern works on the cutting edge of writing for brass. The quintet performs for a wide variety of functions for the university including special holiday performances and gala celebrations.
