Illusionists to Appear (and Disappear) in San Angelo Jan. 25

The Spencers will present an evening of incredible illusions and mind-boggling magic during their award-winning production "Theater of Illusion" during a 7 p.m. performance Jan. 25 in the San Angelo City Auditorium.

The husband-and-wife team's magical production is designed for the entire family with a variety of comedy, music and audience interaction enhancing the audience amazement.

In 1995 Kevin and Cindy Spencer were named "Performing Arts Entertainers of the Year" by over 4,000 arts and entertainment professionals nationwide. This is an honor they share with only one other magician, David Copperfield. In 1996 they became the first artists to receive this recognition two years in a row. They now have held the title for six consecutive years, longer than any other artist.

The Spencers' San Angelo performance is sponsored by the University Center Program Council (UCPC) Arts Committee at Angelo State University. Tickets are available at the University Center Information Desk for $2 for ASU students, $5 for faculty/staff/children under 12 and $8 for the general public. Information is available from the UCPC Office at 325-942-2062.

The Spencers have received rave reviews from audiences and critics. The Vail Daily News called them "Modern Day Houdinis" and the Florida News Herald wrote, "Their work in illusion is absolutely enthralling, engrossing and ingenious. Barring a television special here and there, this is not something most get a chance to see." The Spencers previously performed in San Angelo in 1998 to a sold-out audience in the ASU Auditorium.

Their illusions have been performed on some of the most popular television magic specials, including NBC's "World's Greatest Magic" and ABC's "Champions of Magic." Most recently, they completed taping several illusions for an upcoming Family Channel special called "Magic on the Edge."

Spencers' audiences cross over a threshold of disbelief once the team takes the stage. Using magic much like a storyteller uses words, the Spencers fuse their family-oriented show with a gamut of emotions from slackjawed bewilderment, to bittersweet romance, to sidesplitting comedy, to "on-the-edge-of-your-seat" drama.

Combining theatrical elements and technology with magic, special effects, music, humor, audience interaction, and cutting-edge illusions, the Spencers deliver a clean, positive, performance with a style that is uniquely their own and guaranteed to entertain.
