ASU Agriculture Department to Host Range Management Conference

Angelo State University’s Agriculture Department is joining with the Texas Section Society for Range Management (TSSRM) to host the 2011 TSSRM Annual Meeting Oct. 12-14 at the McNease Convention Center in San Angelo.

The theme for the annual meeting is “Rangeland Stewardship: A History of Heritage, A Future of Change.” Presentations during the meeting will include a session for ranchers, land managers and young range professionals; a program on using technology to promote rangeland products, including livestock, recreation opportunities and rangeland tours; and discussions with ranchers and scientists on ways to adapt to the ever-changing field of ranching and range management.

Other activities will include a reception featuring live music and an auction, a tour of historic Downtown San Angelo, a shooting outing at the San Angelo Clay Bird Association, an awards luncheon, an evening of dinner and dance, and a tour of the Jim Terry Ranch in Coke County. At the Terry Ranch, participants will learn about recovery from the recent wildfires and the increase in wind energy and oil exploration, as well as view demonstrations by Priefert Ranch Equipment, Stay-Tuff Fence and Yellowhouse Machinery.

Cost to attend the meeting is $100, $60 for spouses and $75 for students.
