ASU Physical Therapy Student Group Hosting Parkinson Info Fair

In recognition of April as Parkinson Disease Awareness Month, the Angelo State Physical Therapy Association (ASPTA) is co-hosting a Parkinson Disease Information Fair on Saturday, April 9, next to the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

The outdoor fair will run from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday and is open free to the public, though donations will be accepted. There will also be door prize drawings, and the best parking for the event will be marked with balloons. In case of inclement weather, the fair will move inside the University Center.

Information on various topics related to Parkinson Disease (PD) will be available, including signs and symptoms of PD, medications used to treat PD, the neuroanatomy of PD, the benefits of exercise, safety and accessibility in the home, and vital signs like blood pressure, heart rate, respiration rate and body composition.

First-year ASU physical therapy student Brant Prewitt is organizing the fair as a service project to provide information for community members interested in learning more about Parkinson disease. The event is being co-sponsored by the local Parkinson Disease Support Group under the auspices of the American Parkinson Disease Association.

For more information, call Dr. Carolyn Mason, ASU associate professor of physical therapy, at 942-2794.
