Festivities Planned Around ASU Cotton Bowl Clash Sept. 11

Multiple activities are scheduled for Angelo State University alumni and fans in the Dallas area when the Rams play football in the storied Cotton Bowl, Saturday, Sept. 11.

Activities will include a Friday (Sept. 10) evening reception and a tailgate party the day of the game against Texas A&M-Commerce in the venerable Cotton Bowl. The Cotton Bowl opened in 1932 in Fair Park, site of the State Fair of Texas, and has been one of the most historic venues in the history of Texas collegiate football.

The Rams will face A&M-Commerce in the third annual Harvey Martin Classic, which honors the late Lions great and four-time Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowler Harvey Martin. The weekend of activities will culminate with kickoff at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Cotton Bowl.

Festivities will begin at 6 p.m. Friday with a reception for ASU alumni, friends and donors at the Doubletree Hotel-Campbell Centre at 8250 N. Central Expressway in Dallas. The Doubletree will serve as ASU headquarters during the weekend. Those who wish to attend the reception should make reservations by contacting the ASU Office of Development at 325-942-2116 or

The focus of activities on game day will move to Fair Park for a 1-4 p.m. tailgate party and then the 5 p.m. game. There is no charge for the tailgate party. Game tickets for ASU fans are general admission only at $10 per student and $20 per adult.

ASU Athletic Director Kathleen Brasfield said, “It’s Cotton Bowl time. Put on your blue and gold, get your Ram horns up and cheer the Rams on against the Lions. It’s ASU’s time in the Metroplex. We have alumni, current students and future students in the same place with the same goal – beating Texas A&M-Commerce. Don’t miss it.”

The Sept. 11 game will be the first Cotton Bowl appearance for the Rams and their first game in the Metroplex since visiting North Texas State in the opening game of the 1984 season. The game will mark the 40th meeting between the Rams and A&M-Commerce. ASU leads the all-time series, 23-14-2.
