Architects Recognized for ASU Residence Hall Designs

Randall Scott Architects (RSA) Inc., the firm that designed Angelo State University’s new Centennial Village residence hall, was recognized for Design Excellence on the project in the fall 2009 issue of American School and University magazine.

RSA also received Design Excellence recognition for its architectural plans for the future Plaza Verde residence complex on the ASU campus.

Centennial Village is a $28 million, 526-bed residence hall located at 2675 W. Ave. N on the western border of the ASU campus. It opened for the fall 2008 semester and also includes a convenience store, laundry facilities, study and meeting areas, a game room, outdoor recreation facilities and student parking areas.

The first phase of Plaza Verde will be a $23 million, 420-bed facility constructed on the eastern side of campus on the corner of Van Buren and Vanderventer Streets, and is targeted for completion in 2011. The second phase will be an approximately 480-bed facility with a cost and completion date to be determined. In addition to student housing, Plaza Verde will include a “quad” area for outdoor meetings and recreation as well as student parking areas. It is designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver standards for its many “green” features.

RSA is a Dallas-based architectural, planning and interiors firm that specializes in Texas higher education and municipal architecture. It has also designed student residence halls at St. Mary’s University, Midwestern State University, University of Texas of the Permian Basin and Southern Arkansas University. Its municipal buildings include city halls and municipal courts in Haltom City, Commerce and Granbury as well as the Dallas Fire Station No. 40.
