Rallo Named Vice Chair of International Education Group

Angelo State University President Joseph C. Rallo has been elected vice chairman and chair-elect of the board of directors of the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC).

The board, which is appointed from members of the Council of Public University Presidents and Chancellors, helps direct TIEC efforts at enhancing the international opportunities available to universities and their students.

Since becoming ASU president in the summer of 2007, Rallo has been a strong proponent of international education and has enhanced ASU’s Center for International Studies, which earlier this year received an Andrew Heiskell Award for Innovation in International Education from the Institute of International Education.

TIEC assists educators and students worldwide to strengthen instructional programs, to build effective management and administrative structures and to develop a foundation for life-long learning. Founded in 1985 the independent, self-funded, non-profit corporation delivers a full range of services by utilizing the extensive resource base of 32 public universities in the State of Texas along with other U.S. institutions.

During his academic career, Rallo has published extensively on global business topics with an emphasis on the European Union and Japan. He was selected in 1978 as the first American Fellow to the European University Institute, established by the European Union in Florence, Italy, as its primary educational and research institution. Dr. Rallo has also been named a Fulbright Scholar and NATO Fellow. He also has testified before United States Senate committees on technology relations between the U.S. and the European Union.

From 1992-99, he chaired the executive committee of the Japan Center for Michigan Universities, a consortia of Michigan’s 15 public institutions and Shiga Prefecture in Hikone, Japan, with extensive on-site programs focused on language, culture and business.
