ASU to Offer New Master’s Program at Marble Falls Site

Angelo State University will bring its Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) program to Marble Falls on the Texas Tech University at Highland Lakes campus, 806 Steve Hawkins Pkwy.

The new Hill Country program is designed for people who want to advance their careers in the nonprofit sector or government agencies, or who wish to work with private corporations that deal with government officials and agencies, said Dr. Jack Barbour, ASU professor of government, who oversees the M.P.A. program.

“This degree will provide students with required governmental administrative concepts, skills and techniques to succeed in their roles, while also offering the necessary credential for middle and upper management positions,” he said.

The degree, which has been an established program at ASU for years, requires 36 semester credit hours, including 27 hours of core courses and nine hours of electives. The degree will be a hybrid program in Marble Falls, with some work on the Internet and three face-to-face classes per semester.

The goal of the M.P.A. program is to create committed and skilled public managers. The program seeks a wide range of students by providing a generalist degree.

The successful ASU program has sent five students into the Presidential Management Intern Program which takes 200 students a year nationwide, Barbour said.
