ASU Advisor Contributes to National Publication

The National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) has announced the release of a new national publication co-edited by Dr. Susan L. Neste, executive director of Angelo State University’s Office of Predeclared Advising.

The monograph is titled “Comprehensive Advisor Training and Development: Practices that Deliver” and is described on the NACADA website as a “complete collection of information and practical ideas for training and developing academic advisor skills and knowledge” that “contains the information training coordinators want and need to create or improve advisor training and development programs.”

In a letter to ASU President Joseph C. Rallo, NACADA Executive Director Charlie Nutt said, “Susan’s participation is a positive reflection on, and representation of, the excellent work of your educational institution and the valuable work done by Susan’s department. We know that Susan’s contribution indicates her commitment to providing quality academic advising to all students. Her dedication to the profession is admirable and her contribution is a positive asset to this publication.”

Neste came to ASU in 2004 as director of the Office of Academic Advising, which has been revamped into her current office and incorporated into the Center for Academic Excellence. All ASU students must be advised before they can register for classes, and Neste oversees the academic advising of students who have not yet declared a major.

“Our mission is to assist students to become successful learners and graduate from ASU,” Neste said. “We are here to assist students in their academic success.”

Neste holds a doctorate in educational administration from the University of North Dakota, where she was also director of the University Learning Center. She has also served as director of the Academic Success Center at Wayne State University in Detroit.

The monograph edited by Neste is available through the NACADA website at
