Constitution Day Activities Set for Sept. 17 at ASU

Reading of the U.S. Constitution and a reenactment of its 1787 ratification debate will highlight Constitution Day activities Thursday, Sept. 17, on the Angelo State University campus.

The fifth annual constitutional reading will run from 8 a.m.-noon in the ASU Houston Harte University Center and will feature ASU students, faculty and staff participating. Community members are also invited to read and anyone interested in taking part should call the College of Liberal and Fine Arts at 942-2110 or send an email to

Copies of the Constitution will be available in English, Spanish, Korean, Russian, Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Chinese and Italian for those participating in the reading and it can be read in any language.

Longtime ASU government professors Casey Jones and Jerry Perry will take the stage for the Constitution ratification debate at 3 p.m. in the Eldon Black Recital Hall in the Carr Education-Fine Arts building, 2602 Dena Drive.

Jones will portray Alexander Hamilton and Perry will assume the role of Patrick Henry, as they have in years past. After the debate, the audience will be asked to vote on ratification of the Constitution.

The reading and debate reenactment are open free to the public.
