Former Coleman Area Student Receives ASU Scholarship

A Panther Creek High School graduate has been awarded the $500 Alan Davis Memorial Scholarship at Angelo State University for the 2009-10 academic year.

The recipient is Nancy Jean Meyer, a sophomore integrated accounting major at ASU.

At Panther Creek, Meyer won the Panther Pride Award signifying leadership, attitude and commitment. She was a member of the varsity basketball, track and cross country teams, acted as the school mascot and was active in 4-H, FFA, the yearbook staff, student council, the Gifted and Talented program and UIL academic competitions. She was also voted student council president, class president and Class Favorite. She took second place at the Houston Livestock Show with her meat goat, was the basketball team MVP, advanced to the area track meet twice and advanced to the regional rounds in UIL calculator and accounting contests.

Outside of school, Meyer was active in her church youth group. She went to Broyles Children’s Home on a mission trip and traveled to Australia as a student ambassador for the People to People program. She also prepared and delivered Christmas boxes to the underprivileged, served community meals and sang with the youth group at area nursing homes.

The Alan Davis Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to worthy Coleman County high school graduates attending ASU. The endowment was established in 1992 in memory of the late Alan Davis, a 1981 Coleman High School graduate and 1985 graduate of Angelo State.
