Brackin Named to New Angelo State Community Relations Post

Angelo State University President Joseph C. Rallo has named Rebekah F. “Becky” Brackin of San Angelo as the university’s first director of community relations.

She previously worked 10 years with the San Angelo Independent School District as community relations coordinator and later director of public relations. An ASU graduate and a resident of San Angelo for the past 28 years, Brackin has been active in numerous community organizations.

“With her experience and her extensive involvement in the community, Becky Brackin is an ideal choice to broaden Angelo State University’s outreach efforts,” Rallo said. “As director of community relations, she will work to extend Angelo State’s visibility and reach in the community in line with the goals of the university and the Texas Tech University System.”

Brackin said, “As my 20 years of experience have taught me, there is simply no substitute for a well-tuned ear to the community. It is critical to involve and inform citizens who can contribute in a multitude of ways to ASU’s continued growth.”

The appointment is effective Oct. 20. Brackin will office in ASU’s Administrative Support Center, 2501 W. Avenue N, with the Office of Communications and Marketing. The community relations telephone number will be 325-486-6399.

In 2008 she was promoted to general manager prior to assuming the role of publisher.

During her tenure as SAISD’s community relations coordinator, she oversaw parental volunteer efforts, the pre-student teaching program with ASU and the business volunteer and mentor program. After being named director of public relations for the school district, she built that department and served on the team that developed the first SAISD Web site.

She has served on the board of directors for United Way of the Concho Valley, West Texas Rehabilitation Center and Concho Valley Center for Entrepreneurial Development. She has worked on the advisory boards of the West Texas Training Center and the Junior League of San Angelo. She’s a member of the ASU Alumni Association and the Leadership San Angelo Alumni Association. She was named the San Angelo YMCA Volunteer of the Year in 2001.
