ASU to Host Young Women’s Conference Feb. 28

Angelo State University will host a day-long Expanding Your Horizons conference for girls in grades 6-12 on Saturday, Feb. 28, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

The conference is part of a nationwide effort to increase the number of young women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields and will feature 15 fun, educational and motivational workshops conducted by ASU faculty and volunteers. Attendees will each pick three workshops to attend and will also be treated to an optional campus tour, a networking lunch and a Super Science Demonstration Show performed by the ASU Society of Physics Students and student chapter of the American Chemical Society.

The optional campus tour will begin at 9 a.m. Feb. 28 and registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the University Center. The welcoming ceremony will be at 10 a.m. in the University Center’s C.J. Davidson Conference Center, then the students will move to the various ASU science labs for the first set of workshops. The networking lunch will begin at 11:45 a.m. followed by two more rounds of workshops and the 4 p.m. science demonstration show.

The conference is sponsored by the ASU College of Sciences and College of Nursing and Allied Health in conjunction with the Girl Scouts of Central Texas. Attendance is open to all girls in grades 6-12 and they do not have to be Girl Scouts. Cost to attend is $15 per person and includes lunch. Pre-registration is required and financial aid is also available.
