ASU to Host TCEA Area 15 Robotics Contest

Hundreds of elementary and secondary school students will descend on Angelo State University for the first-ever Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) Area 15 Robotics Contest Monday, Feb. 16, in the ASU Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

Students from schools in Education Service Center (ESC) Region XV and Region XVIII will compete in two divisions. Division I will be students in grades 9-12 and Division II will be students in grades 4-8.

Competing in teams from their respective schools, the students will design, plan, construct, create, assemble, invent, write, present and compete to see who has developed the smartest robot. The contests vary based on strategies that involve speed, accuracy and sensing objects and light.

In the Arena Contest, students will program a robot to collect land mines and return them to a containment unit within a two-minute time limit. There will also be an open-ended Invention Contest where students will use marketing, programming, writing, constructing and presentation skills to build a robot that solves a problem of their choice.

The contests will be conducted in the University Center’s Nasworthy Suite (Room 203/204) and C.J. Davidson Conference Center. Winners will receive trophies and qualify for the TCEA State Robotics Contest May 16 in Deer Park.
