U.S. and World Economies to Highlight ASU Symposium

Angelo State University will welcome Dr. Eugenio J. Alem�n, senior economist and vice president of Wells Fargo Bank, as the keynote speaker for the 11th annual International Business Symposium Tuesday, April 14, on the ASU campus.

Alem�n will address the question “Where are the U.S. and World Economies Heading?” in his presentation at 9:30 a.m. April 14 in the ASU Houston Harte University Center’s C.J. Davidson Conference Center. His presentation is open free to the public.

The symposium will also include a seminar on “Global Exporting Essentials” hosted by Douglas Smith, assistant director of the International Trade Center (ITC) in San Antonio. The seminar will run from 2-4 p.m. in the University Center’s Nasworthy Suite 203/204 and is also open free to the public.

Alem�n joined Wells Fargo Bank as a senior economist in July 2005. A prominent forecaster of regional, national and international economic trends, he previously spent seven years as the managing director of Latin American Service for Global Insight, one of the most important economic forecasting and consulting firms in the U.S. He holds a doctorate in economics with emphasis on economic development and international trade and finance from Florida International University.

Smith has been an international trade and marketing consultant for more than 20 years. He has consulted for small businesses and major corporations, such as IBM, Motorola and Johnson Wax, and has worked with various trade associations and foreign trade commissions. His international experience includes numerous projects involving Western Europe, South America, Asia and Africa. He holds a M.A. in government and international relations and a M.B.A. in finance and international business from the University of Texas and is a certified global business professional.
