Arts at ASU Announces Theater Schedule

Angelo State University ’s Arts at ASU program, which includes six theater and 10 musical presentations during its 12-month season, has announced its tentative theater lineup and is accepting subscriptions for the 2006-07 season.

The theater slate will kick off June 22 with the dinner theater performance of “Sylvia,” a comedy about a Manhattan couple and the dog that comes between them. The second dinner theater of the summer will be a performance of Agatha Christie’s melodrama “The Mousetrap.”

The theater season continues in October with “Necessary Targets,” which follows two American women who travel to war-torn Bosnia to help women refugees confront their memories of war. Holiday merriness will follow in December when an ancient, wise and witty spirit brings joy to a dour family in the comedy “Greetings!”

The venerable play “Pippin,” about Charlemagne’s son’s quest to find his true calling in life, rings in the spring. The final play of the season is “To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday,” a story of a widower’s grief and recovery.

“The Mousetrap” will open on July 27, “Necessary Targets” on Oct. 13, “Greetings!” on Nov. 30, “Pippin” on March 21, and “To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday” on April 26.

All Sunday performances will begin at 2 p.m., and all others will begin at 8 p.m. For the dinner theater productions “Sylvia,” “The Mousetrap” and “Greetings!” dinner will be served one hour before curtain time, and doors will open 15 minutes before dinner. Theater productions will run two weekends, with a Sunday matinee the first weekend.

Individual subscriptions for the Arts at ASU season are available for $30. The subscriptions provide six total admissions to theater productions that can be used in any combination the subscriber chooses. Subscribers pay an additional $15 for dinner theaters to cover the cost of food.

Subscribers also receive advance notice of the season’s 10 musical performances.
