Social Work Field Education

A key component of Angelo State University’s Bachelors of Social Work (B.S.W.) and Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) programs are the field education experience.

The purpose of field education in social work education is to provide opportunities for students to apply social work knowledge, skills, values, and cognitive and effective processes learned in the classroom to real-life situations with clients “in the field”. B.S.W. and M.S.W. students are able to observe the benefits and challenges of working within various organizational settings with diverse client populations. Students are supervised by a professional social worker or related degree individual in the field agency (the Field Instructor) and by field faculty (Field Education Liaison and Field Education Director) at the University.

  • InPlace Student Platform

The Social Work Department is now using InPlace, an internship management platform for B.S.W. and M.S.W. Students. Students will use InPlace for applications, time sheets, weekly supervision logs and evaluations.

We have provided access to the required applications and forms, so students can view them outside of the InPlace Student Platform.

  • Professional Liability Insurance

Students who have been accepted into the Education Program should invest in professional liability insurance and provide evidence of such to the social work field education director prior to beginning their field education experience.

The Field Education students who do not purchase malpractice insurance will not be allowed to meet with any clients or complete their field education.

The field education student must provide proof to the Field Education Director of such malpractice insurance, at the 1 million/3 million level, coverage prior to beginning their field education experience.
