Information for:

Political Science and Philosophy

Students in the Department of Political Science and Philosophy practice what they learn. Our political science students observe legislative sessions and join clubs that study how government operates. Our philosophy students learn how to form good arguments and then apply those skills to real issues and topics. We offer majors and minors in both political science and philosophy, and the department also conducts pre-law advising.

Relevant Coursework

Students in our program study hot topics in today’s society. Political science courses analyze current events and laws that affect people at the state and national levels. Philosophy courses delve into such topics as ethics and critical reasoning.

Educational Enhancement

Political science students are encouraged to participate in an internship program to gain real-world experience. Students also have opportunities to go on trips to the Texas Legislature and participate in simulations of government meetings to develop hands-on knowledge and skills. Philosophy students have been known to collaborate with other community groups, such as the San Angelo Civic Ballet, to present philosophical concepts through art. Study abroad is also emphasized so that students can learn first-hand about the government and justice systems of other countries.
