Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening
All admitted students will be required to submit to a federal criminal background check through the Texas Board of Nursing. Additionally, admitted students to the Generic B.S.N. must submit for a drug screening upon admission.
If the results of the background check and/or drug screening are deemed unacceptable to any of the clinical agencies with which the university has contracts, you would not be able to complete the clinical requirements of the program necessary for progression and graduation, and therefore, would not qualify for acceptance into the nursing program.
Examples of histories disqualifying an individual from completing clinical rotations in Angelo State University-affiliated agencies include, but are not limited to:
- Felony convictions
- Misdemeanor convictions or felony deferred adjudications involving crimes against persons (personal or sexual)
- Felony deferred adjudications for the sale, possession, distribution or transfer of narcotics or controlled substances
- Registered sex offender status
Students must also submit to any additional screenings that may be requested by the clinical agency in which they are participating in clinical experiences.
