Kinesiology is the study of human movement (physical activity), which plays a vital role in the overall health and wellness of individuals and of society as a whole. Kinesiology is a broad and developing academic discipline that is growing in popularity as an academic major across the nation. Gaining a base of knowledge in kinesiology prepares students for a variety of professions, such as health-fitness management, coaching and teaching. Kinesiology is also the major of choice for numerous pre-health professions, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy and many others.

Our Mission

The mission of the Department of Kinesiology is to provide prospective and current kinesiology professionals with the requisite knowledge, skills and dispositions for high-quality living, leadership and service to a dynamic, diverse and global 21st century community and workplace. The Department of Kinesiology also endeavors to provide all undergraduate students with the requisite knowledge, skills and dispositions for lifelong physical activity.

and joins AKA in efforts to promote the discipline of kinesiology by conducting sound research, preparing quality students and enhancing peoples’ physical activity and health.
