Career Opportunities

History students at Angelo State University not only enlarge their scope of knowledge, critical thinking and judgment, they also develop writing and research skills. After graduation, students can teach history or pursue careers with public service agencies. Many students continue on to law school or graduate school, which can lead to careers in historic preservation and museums, among other areas.

Scholarly Faculty

Our full-time history faculty engage in various forms of scholarly pursuits in their specialty areas. Members of the history program publish award-winning books and articles, write reviews for prestigious journals, present papers at professional conferences and serve as leaders in various professional organizations. Faculty interests span the spectrum of United States, European, Asian, Latin American and Texas history, as well as more specialized topics ranging from Mexican-Americans in the United States to sports history.

Research Facilities

ASU history students have access to an expanding collection of original research materials in the university library. The history program also has agreements with Fort Concho National Historic Landmark and the West Texas Collection to reference their historic documents for research purposes. Those documents include diaries, journals and memoirs from early West Texas settlers, as well as collections of historic journals and periodicals.
