Accounting Degree

Every business needs an accountant. At ASU, students not only acquire accounting skills and information, they also learn the ability to analyze the economic activity of an organization or business.

The U.S. Department of Labor reports that demands for accountants and auditors are expected to increase as a result of stricter accounting and auditing regulations as well as an expanding economy. Graduates are expected to have excellent job prospects.

The accounting program is based in the ASU Rassman Building and all lecture rooms are smart classrooms equipped with surround sound and digital technology capabilities. The department also has a fully-equipped computer lab.

In addition to accountancy, students may opt to pursue careers as attorneys, business consultants or treasurers, among others. Angelo State University offers accounting majors a choice of degree plans:

Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) Accounting Major

This option is for students interested in receiving the general education and technical knowledge necessary to start an accounting career. Curriculum includes statistical analysis, the processes of federal and state government, financial management and general accounting. Graduates may work in any type of business as well as not-for-profit organizations, such as hospitals, charities or universities.

Five-year Integrated Accounting Bachelor of Business Administration/Master of Professional Accountancy (M.P.Ac.)

This program allows students to receive both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Professional Accountancy after five years of study. At the beginning of their senior year, students are admitted to the graduate program and can begin taking graduate courses.
