Sociology Advising

Welcome sociology students! Advising is required for all sociology majors regardless of classification.

What to Expect

Sociology majors with less than 45 semester credit hours are to be advised through the Freshman College’s Center for Academic Excellence. Sociology majors with 45 or more semester credit hours are to be advised by the Psychology & Sociology Department .

Advising through the Center for Academic Excellence
  • Your academic advisor will send an email to you through Navigate. You will then be able to follow the link provided to choose an appointment time of your choice.
  • If you lose the email you were sent containing the appointment link, please log into Navigate using your RamPort credentials. You should find an announcement bar at the top of your viewing screen with a link to schedule the appointment.

    • New Sociology Majors: If you will be a new sociology major or would like to change your major to sociology, please contact the appropriate office above based on your overall earned hours.

  • Once your schedule has been approved, your advisor will sign off on your degree plan and release your advising hold.

  • If you have no other holds, you will be free to register for classes based on the registration schedule. If you have other holds, you will be directed to the appropriate place to have them removed.
  • If you have scheduled an appointment and will not be able to attend, please notify your advisor right away by calling the Center for Academic Excellence at 325-942-2595.
Advising through the Department of Psychology and Sociology
  • Students majoring in sociology can sign up for an advising appointment by visiting the department office in Room 204 of the Academic Building. The office coordinator has an appointment book that lists several hours per day in which students can see a faculty or staff advisor. Students who are unable to come to campus should call the office coordinator at 325-942-2068.
