Respondus is a powerful tool used in conjunction with Blackboard at Angelo State University. It offers assessment applications for instructors, making learning simple and effective. This component of Respondus is called Respondus Campus wide; a tool for creating and managing exams that can be published directly to Blackboard Learn. Respondus also offers applications for students, including Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor. These allow for secure online testing in a classroom or from the comfort of a student’s home. Navigate through this page to learn more about each component of Respondus.

Then, in the Preview and Publish tab, select “Publish to Blackboard” and “Publish Wizard.” From here, you can choose to publish to a single course or multiple courses, as well as to a new or existing exam or a pool.
If you have published your exam to Blackboard as an exam, simply go to the content area you would like your exam to be in, select the Assessments tab and then Tests. Choose your exam from the list of Existing Tests.
If you have published your exam to Blackboard as a pool, you will need to navigate to Tests, Surveys and Pools in the Control Panel’s Course Tools. From here, build the exam utilizing the Pool questions.
Once your exam is deployed you have the option to change the test settings. Select the chevron next to the title to Edit the Test Options. The test options are where you will be able to set the test availability, student feedback, and other options for students. This section also includes testing exceptions which allow users to have extended testing time, and second test attempts.
Respondus LockDown Browser
Respondus LockDown Browser is a customized browser that increases the security of online testing in Blackboard and will prohibit students from printing, copying, or accessing another browser or URL. Once the test has been deployed into a content area in Blackboard, go to Respondus LockDown Browser in the Control Panel’s Course Tools and select the icon to the left of your test to modify the settings. The new dashboard includes a “Review Priority” scoring system, providing instructors with an easy way to identify exam sessions that require deeper scrutiny. Check out the new features by watching this video.
Download Respondus LockDown Browser
Respondus LockDown Browser is used for secure online testing and can be found on every lab computer on the ASU campus. If you would like to use LockDown Browser on your personal computer, simply download it from your Technology Support tab in Blackboard and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the download.
Setup Respondus Monitor
To start using Monitor, make sure a webcam is connected or installed to your computer, as well Respondus LockDown Browser. Then, close all programs open on your computer. Login to Blackboard from LockDown Browser and navigate to your test. Read and agree to the Terms of Service for Monitor.
When the webcam check appears, you will be asked a series of questions. First, confirm you can see your image in the window by selecting “yes.” You will then start to record a 5 second video and select continue when it has finished.
This option allows the instructor to identify you in the webcam recording. It is another layer of security for online exams. Simply take a picture of yourself!
This option allows the instructor to compare the student photo you took in the Student Photo section against a valid ASU ID Card. When you are given this option, hold your ASU One Card up to the webcam and select Take Picture.
This option allows the instructor to verify your work area is clear of papers, books, phones, etc. To perform this environment check, simply start and stop recording when you reach this option.
Follow these instructions if you are using Respondus LockDown Browser to take an exam and you want to ensure that your accessibility tools or accommodations are still in place during the exam.
