Dr. Hung received his B.S. in physical therapy from Chung Shan Medical University in Taiwan. After practicing as a physical therapist for several years, he went to study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his M.S. degree in Human Movement Science with a focus on orthopedics and sport physical therapy. He further completed his Ph.D. degree in Integrative Physiology (Exercise Science) at the University of Iowa with a focus on motor control. Dr. Hung has been a licensed physical therapist in the United States since 1998. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
Dr. Hung joined our Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Angelo State University in May 2009. He teaches Motor Control and Clinical Applications, Musculoskeletal Pathology, and an elective course (CSCS certification workshop). He also assists in Clinical Exercise Physiology and Fundamentals of PT Examination.
Dr. Hung studied shoulder position sense and kinesthetically guided reaching accuracy in individuals with anterior shoulder instability for his doctoral work. To further examine the topic, he is interested in upper limb coordination and reaching accuracy in individuals with various types of shoulder instability and different levels of injury severity. In recent years, Dr. Hung and his students have been studying balance control and proprioception of the ankle joint. He is also pursuing research on the impact of conservative treatments that are commonly implemented by physical therapists to better ankle motor control and prevent recurrent injuries.
Dr. Hung is also interested in health promotion for vulnerable populations. A recent focus for this line of research is to examine cardiorespiratory fitness and body composition in various minority groups at the college level.
